Lying west of Crete's famous Mirabello Bay, Agios Nikolaos' finest landmark is a small circular lake, 'Voulismeni' that sits at the foot of the cliffs. This is a favourite spot for visitors and the banks are dotted with open-air cafes and tavernas. Boats frequently leave the harbour to visit the Venetian fortress of Spinaloga, near Elouda.
