Lefkas

Connected to the Greek mainland, Lefkas is only just an island.  The swing bridge is the only road on and off the island over the canal constructed by the Corinthians in the 6th Century BC.  There are contrasts on the island – the west has sheer cliffs that tower above the azure hue of the Ionian with fabulous beaches (some only reached by boat), the mountainous interior offers traditional working villages among the vineyards the island is famous for, and the southern and eastern coasts offer the closest thing to resorts on the island with bustling Nidri and Vassiliki, all the way to deserted honey coloured sandy beaches.

There is plenty to do on the island (apart from relaxing under the Ionian Sun) with regular excursions to Kefalonia, Ithaca, Onassis island of Skorpios and Meganissi. There are mountain bike rental companies throughout the island, and watersports such as windsurfing from many of the island beaches. The island is known as the sailing capital of the Ionian and flotillas of yachts pass along the coastline virtually every day. These and the boat trips to the neighbouring islands are often accompanied by schools of inquisitive dolphins.

With its wonderful collection of beaches, luxurious hotels, villas with stunning private pools, and rugged rocky coastlines, Lefkas really does offer something for everyone.
