Meganissi

Meganissi is a small Greek island located in the Ionian Sea, part of the Lefkada region. It is situated just to the east of the larger island of Lefkada, separated by a narrow channel. The island is known for its serene landscapes, enchanting beaches, and charming villages. With a population of around 1,000 residents, Meganissi retains a traditional Greek atmosphere, offering a peaceful escape from the more crowded tourist destinations in the Ionian.

The island’s main settlement, Vathy, is a delightful harbourside village bustling with activity where visitors can enjoy authentic Greek cuisine and explore quaint streets lined with traditional houses. Other villages on the island include Spartochori and Katomeri, which are equally charming and offer scenic views of the surrounding sea and neighbouring islands. Despite its small size, Meganissi has a rich history, with archaeological sites and remnants from various periods, including ancient Greek times. It has remained largely unaffected by mass tourism, which helps it preserve its authentic charm. Visitors are drawn to the island for its quiet atmosphere, stunning vistas, and laid-back lifestyle, making it a hidden gem in the Ionian Sea. Our Recommended Meganissi Properties

Vathi is a lovely little harbour village in a sheltered bay – apart from the ferries from neighbouring Lefkas, life here remains delightfully sedate.  Tavernas line the waterfront – perfect for watching the world go by. Even quieter are tiny Spartochori with is alleyways, shops and a few tavernas, and the island capital Katomeri which is the epitome of sleepy Greek villages.

Holidays on Meganissi revolve around the outdoors.  As well as the beaches at Ambelaki and Fanari, there are other secluded coves.  The best way to explore is to hire a small boat and explore the coastline or even take a trip to neighbouring Lefkas or even Kefalonia.  Alternatively, simply take in the views, and relax.
