Our Recommended Kea(Tzia) Properties

Situated in the centre of the island at the site of the ancient city that bore the same name, the island capital today is Ioulis (or Chora) – a pretty town with ceramic tile roofed houses, cobbled streets and arched passages, steps and squares.  The whole village is pedestrianised with cars left at the outskirts by even the locals.  Within the old Kastro are the remains of Venetian walls and an acropolis as well as the monastery of Panagia Kastriani which lies on a rock promontory offering stunning views.

The main entry point to Kea is the village of Korissia (also known as Livadi) – a picturesque port built on the natural harbour and the ruins of the ancient port.  The natural harbour is considered one of the safest harbours in the Greek islands.  One of the islands dive centres is located in Korissia – snorkelling and dive trips are offered to the famous shipwrecks that surround the islands coastline.

The small fishing village of Vourkari is located on the northern coastline.  Protected from the prevailing winds the village has some of the best seafood restaurants on the island.

On the south western coastline is the village of Koundouros which has over time developed into as much of a “resort” as Kea offers.  Here the lovely beach, the crystal blue waters and the daytime as well as evening entertainments make for a great holiday.

Otzias is a sleepy village on the northern coast and has an enclosed picturesque bay that is gently shelving – perfect for families.  What is reputedly recognised as the best fish restaurant on the island is also located in Otzias.

Pisses village is around 11km from Ioulis and the journey between the two offers some of the lovliest scenery on the island.  The village is known for the historic remains of the ancient city of Piieassa and the church of Agia Sotira which used to be a templed dedicated to the god Apollo.  The crystal clear waters and sandy beach here add to the attraction and sunset is magical seeing the mountains with purple shadows on their slopes.

Spathi, around 14km from Ioulis offers one of the best beaches on Kea.  The wide sands offer a perfect place to relax – a paradise in its own right.

The beautiful island of Kea is the perfect destination for discerning travellers seeking a peaceful retreat.
