Patmos

Renowned worldwide for its deep religious significance, Patmos Island is the revered location where John the Evangelist penned the Book of Revelation. Today, it beckons not only pilgrims, but also nature enthusiasts and travellers seeking an enchanting blend of spirituality and stunning land and seascapes.

Patmos boasts a dramatic, rugged landscape, marked by a serpentine coastline, volcanic terrain, and steep hillsides. This uneven beauty is complemented by the island's serene beaches, offering crystal-clear waters and tranquil settings. From its pristine shorelines to its rolling countryside, the island captures the heart of every visitor.

The villages of Patmos are treasures in themselves. Wander through their narrow alleys, relax in stone-paved squares, and admire the traditional architecture of whitewashed and stone-built homes. Look especially for the traditional bakeries where you can buy cheese pies, local dairy products and a speciality, called ‘Poughi’ (pouch) made with honey and nuts wrapped in a pouch-like dough.

Patmos holds a prominent place on UNESCO's World Heritage List, with the Historic Centre (Chora), the Monastery of Saint John the Theologian, and the Cave of the Apocalypse forming its sacred trifecta. Declared a "Sacred Island" by Greece in 1981, Patmos is also a member of the COESIMA network, celebrated as one of Europe’s top pilgrimage sites.
