Bed & Breakfast, sleeps 2-5, car hire advantageous
Tucked away on the unspoiled island of Antiparos, The Rooster is a tranquil blend of resort and retreat designed for those in search of meaningful experiences, privacy, and immersion in nature. This intimate escape accommodates 2–5 guests on a bed and breakfast basis, offering a setting where time slows and simplicity is celebrated. Inspired by the soulful rhythms of Cycladic life, the property invites reflection, reconnection, and restoration.
Spread across 30 acres of wild gardens, sand dunes, and hills overlooking Livadia Bay, The Rooster features 16 discreetly placed houses. Each residence is designed with privacy and serenity in mind, drawing on traditional island architecture. Built from local stone and pressed plaster, the homes blend seamlessly with the landscape. Natural textures, thoughtful details, and sweeping sea views create a feeling of harmony and ease. Generous indoor and outdoor living spaces, private pools, and alfresco showers enhance the connection to nature, while interiors reflect a relaxed, nomadic style.
A highlight of the experience is the cuisine, which centres on seasonal, sustainable ingredients. Led by chef Simos Triantafyllou, menus are inspired by the Mediterranean, shaped by the day’s catch, local cheeses, garden harvests, and eggs from The Rooster’s own hens. Meals are offered in a range of settings, from the relaxed main restaurant to communal Sunday suppers at The Farm. Breakfast includes freshly baked breads, pistachio granola, lavender rice pudding, and tsoureki French toast, while all-day dining features salads, seafood, flatbreads, and house-made skewers. Private barbecues or beachside picnics can also be arranged for an even more personal touch.
The Farm, located nearby in Kambos, is a working organic garden and open-air kitchen that also serves as a hub for community and creativity. Seasonal produce—vivid tomatoes, tender greens, and fragrant herbs—are transformed into rustic Greek lunches. Guests are invited to take part in activities such as pottery classes, cooking demonstrations, and music nights under the olive trees. At the three-bedroom Farmhouse, surrounded by fields and quiet countryside, guests can immerse themselves in authentic island life with the option of private meals or simply enjoying the space in peaceful solitude.
Wellness at The Rooster goes beyond the physical. Bespoke therapies begin with a personalised consultation to understand lifestyle, emotional triggers, and physical concerns. This mindful approach informs transformative treatments designed to rebalance and restore. Whether through meditation by the sea, sunrise swims, or slow moments beneath olive branches, the setting itself becomes part of the healing process.
Days are shaped by the island’s natural rhythm. Beach chairs, parasols, and paddleboards are complimentary, while bikes and a Wrangler Jeep offer land-based exploration. The house boat, The Chick, takes guests to neighbouring islets and ancient ruins. Sunset brings another kind of magic. Guests gather at the open-air bar with botanical mocktails or inventive cocktails, such as Despotiko — a bold mix of whisky, ouzo, apricot and black pepper. Dinner in the Secret Garden, under starlit skies, showcases dishes like piri-piri squid, fish fricassée, or goat ragout with myzithra cheese.
Antiparos itself remains largely untouched by mass tourism. The village harbour is lined with fishing boats, whitewashed houses, and bougainvillea-covered lanes. Within its small scale lies great diversity — volcanic rock formations, ancient temples, soft hills, and tranquil beaches. Livadia beach, in particular, where The Rooster is located, offers a wilder edge and the island’s finest sunset views. When the wind picks up, it transforms into a quiet surf haven.
A boutique on-site, curated by founder Athanasia Comninos, features ethically sourced clothing and artisan goods from around the world. From embroidered kaftans and silk pyjamas to handmade candles and jewellery, each piece has a story and a personal connection.
The Rooster is not a conventional resort. It is a deeply personal project born from a desire to create a place of calm, authenticity, and beauty — where small details are treasured and guests are gently encouraged to slow down, reconnect with themselves, and live simply.
