Sleeps 2-5, Room only or Bed & Breakfast
The Caravan is a small bed and breakfast comprising thirteen rooms in a renovated neoclassical building at 1 Rempelou Street in Thessaloniki. Originally constructed in 1929 as a modest “seragio,” an inn that welcomed travellers, the property later became a private residence. In 1998, the Ministry of Macedonia-Thrace designated it as a listed building due to its historical significance. Following a restoration by the National Bank in 2001, it reopened in late 2015 as a contemporary bed and breakfast, respectfully honouring its past while evolving into a modern travellers’ inn.
The concept behind The Caravan is to provide an affordable and fresh accommodation option in Thessaloniki’s historic centre, combining essential amenities with a personal approach to service. Every room features high-speed Wi-Fi, fresh linens, comfortable mattresses, blackout curtains, adjustable air conditioning, and a menu of pillows to suit each preference. Guests can order drinks from the bar or enjoy brunch at any time, all within an atmosphere that balances simplicity and comfort.
The property functions as more than just a place to stay. It creates a sense of belonging where visitors are encouraged to feel at home. The communal “living room” sets the tone with vibrant colours, relaxed seating, and an atmosphere that blends contemporary design with vintage character. Much of the furniture was sourced from the families and friends of those involved in the project, adding a sense of shared history to the interiors.
The Caravan also includes spaces for gatherings and events. The Breakfast Club, located on the ground floor, hosts up to thirty guests for brunches or presentations and features vintage decor, blackout capability, a projector, and speakers. Another venue, the Lobby Boy, accommodates up to fifty-five people in a bright, spacious lounge, ideal for celebrations or meetings.
Caravan Coffee operates daily from morning until late evening, welcoming both travellers and locals. Its menu offers traditional Greek coffee, homemade lemonade, custom cocktails, and an assortment of unique snacks. This smoke-free café embodies the spirit of the Caravan—a place where stories are shared, cultures connect, and visitors are treated with genuine hospitality.
Guided by founders and a close-knit team, The Caravan was shaped by years of planning and collaboration, driven by a vision of authentic hospitality. The ethos centres around people rather than grand concepts or superficial aesthetics. By mixing modern comforts with the building’s neoclassical roots, it functions as a time capsule, offering guests a journey across eras.
The Caravan positions itself as a living inn that grows with each guest’s presence. Travellers are invited to contribute their experiences and energy, enriching the collective spirit of this unique space. In doing so, the building continues its story, much like the original seragio where everything began.
