Green Island Resort, located in Aghios Nikolaos on Kea Island in the Cyclades, offers a tranquil retreat in the Southern Aegean Sea, where sea and sky blend into one. Nestled within approximately 40,000 square meters of natural beauty, the estate is home to a rich landscape of Kean oak trees, almond groves, vineyards, olive trees, and fields of aromatic herbs such as thyme, rosemary, and oregano. Emphasizing organic practices, the resort produces its own wine under the brand “ΔΙΑΣ,” along with virgin olive oil and traditional raki spirit. These are made and bottled on site in the estate’s private winery, with occasional wine tastings offered by arrangement.
The estate features two primary villas—Athena and Poseidon—each designed as sanctuaries for peace and self-reflection. Villa Athena, located on the lower grounds, is adjacent to a more-than-century-old stone structure, preserving the essence of traditional local architecture. It includes four bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and expansive balconies offering views across the hills to the capital Ioulis (Chora) and the port of Korissia. The villa is framed by palm trees and gardens filled with seasonal blooms. A wide terrace and barbecue area accompany a uniquely shaped pool that curves around natural rock formations, surrounded by native flora. A fully equipped, roofed pool bar with a wooden veranda is available for exclusive guest use.
Perched at the top of the hill, Villa Poseidon offers panoramic views of both the countryside and the Aegean Sea, extending to Attica and Cape Sounio, where the ancient temple of Poseidon stands. Constructed entirely from local schist stone, the villa blends harmoniously into its surroundings. It includes five bedrooms and four bathrooms, with interiors adorned in traditional décor, stone slate floors, handcrafted furniture, and Greek embroidery. The pool terrace here offers sweeping views, enhancing the feeling of serenity.
Green Island Resort stands out in the Cycladic islands as the only resort with a private helipad, olive groves, vineyard, and a working winery. The architecture respects the local landscape, with the use of native stone and the thoughtful incorporation of historical structures, including a two-hundred-year-old shepherd’s shelter that has been preserved within the design.
The resort promotes a connection to nature, balancing comfort with a return to simpler, earth-rooted experiences. Seasonal rituals like grape and olive harvesting are celebrated, offering a hands-on appreciation of Cycladic traditions. Guests are invited to engage with the land through activities such as swimming, hiking, and cycling. A network of cycling lanes and trails, spanning about four kilometers, has been created within the estate’s fenced grounds. These trails are suitable for all skill levels and allow for exploration of both cultivated and wild landscapes, reinforcing the spirit of Kean nature.
A traditional threshing floor, over two centuries old and set on a wind-swept hill, remains well preserved on the estate. Built from solid rock, it showcases the age-old method of grain threshing and offers breathtaking views, particularly at sunset or under moonlight. Nearby stands the chapel of Aghios Nikolaos, a historic structure more than 200 years old, situated just outside the estate's fenced boundary. This chapel honors Saint Nicholas, patron of sailors, and hosts a local feast each July 27th in conjunction with Saint Panteleimon, the Healer. The celebration brings together the local community to share food and prayers, maintaining a long-standing spiritual tradition.
Green Island Resort combines cultural heritage, natural beauty, and sustainable luxury, making it a distinctive destination in the South Aegean.
